Picking and preservation: Mint leaves and leafy tops of shoots must be picked in June, when first flower buds appear, but before the mint blooms. Drying should take place in airy and shaded places. Dried leaves must be stored in tightly closed boxes.

Healing properties: Peppermint, along with wild camomile, is one of the most common herb in home medicine chests. Peppermint is not only commonly known, but it is also multi-purpose. Leafy tops of the plant and its leaves make the healing resource of this herb. Mint leaves comprise abundance of aromatic and beneficial components, such as: volatile oil (menthol, menthofurane, menthone, et al.), ascorbic acid, carotene, rutin, apigenin, betaine, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid. It also comprises vitamin C and A, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium.  Mint brew stimulates digestive functions of stomach, stimulates appetite, has carminative and cholagogic properties. It is recommended to heal gastrospasms, intestinal colic, liver and bile ducts ailments. Mint brew is also used for irrigation of mouth suffering from inflammations and to refresh breath.
